Get to know me

Hilma Shigwedha

I'm Hilma Shigwedha, an Electronics and Computer Engineering student from Namibia, currently studying at the University of Namibia. I’m all about mixing tech with creativity, whether that means building with Arduino, diving into machine learning, or writing clean, meaningful code. As President of the Engineers' Book Club, I’ve led poetry nights, mentoring programs, and other community events that bring people together around ideas and inspiration. Outside the lab and lecture halls, I’m a storyteller at heart. From media documentation to content creation, I love helping others share their journeys. Engineering to me isn’t just wires and code, it’s about designing real solutions to real human problems. I'm big on curiosity, collaboration, and making things that matter.

Labs & More

Learning in a classroom is one thing, but using that knowledge in the real world is completely different. You start with the basics from books and lectures. Then, you begin to connect the dots through hands-on work in workshops and labs. Talking with lecturers helps clear up any confusion. Finally, internships in your last year are key. They let you work on real projects, solve actual problems, and see how everything you learned comes together in a professional job.

Lab & Workshop Skills

  1. Breadboarding and circuit prototyping
  2. Soldering and PCB handling
  3. Building and testing amplifiers and oscillators
  4. Digital circuit design using logic gates and flip-flops
  5. Designing BCD synchronous up counters
  6. Microcontroller programming and interfacing
  7. Using simulation software (e.g., Proteus)
  8. Embedded systems and robotics implementation
  9. Basic welding and metalwork fabrication
  10. Computer networking setup and configuration
  11. Operating systems and software installation
  12. MATLAB/Simulink modeling and signal plotting
  13. Python/C programming for embedded applications
  14. Hands-on exposure to database and operating systems concepts
